Recording primarily the Dub Station band over its 15 year career, the label has necessarily voiced a number of associated artists and archived many live shows. KRucial is a member of ASCAP and has signed a digital distribution deal (placing its material with iTunes and many other services). There is some flexibility in terms of adding distributors, promoters, and artists to its roster, as the organization's development will only help those connected to it. SOME HISTORY: KRucial Reggae came into being in 2003, as the most recent incarnation of Kyle Russell's previous label efforts Cross Currents (1994-1997) and Foreign Mine (1998-2002). Cross Currents had a great logo: a red, gold, and green wave flowing over a cross; but the name had been trademarked, and so, it had to be dropped. The hallmark issues of Cross Currents (none of which was produced by Russell) were the (late) Ras Junior's Crown Jam Records compilation & the first Dub Station (self-titled) album. Foreign Mine (meaning essentially: "there is gold - or good music - in foreign" or outside Jamaica) haralded the debut of Russell's own production talents and peaked with the release & remixed repressing of Dub Station & Sonbeam's "Get it Together." Ultimately, KRucial Reggae won out, trademarks were secured, and the company owns the rights to all Dub Station Music (specific song releases, as well as the publishing company of the same name), which it has made available through existing and developing distribution channels, all with proper copyright & song title filing. As alluded to in the brief text introduction, KRucial Reggae's looking for new talent and has a long history of working with, and developing the careers of numerous artists (see the KRucial Online Store for specific releases). KRucial Reggae's 2 most recent releases are Dub Station & Shaka Black "Chant Rastafari" AND Dub Station & Tom O'Brien's "Now and Then." KRucial Reggae's also collaborated with partner project Peppa3 on the pre-release of Abijah's album "Swept Away," officially released now as "Moving 2 the Top." As an organization, we have outsourced and provided our own publicity & radio distribution services, and are likewise open to working with others in promoting their own releases. |
